Baby Essentials For Parents On A Budget

By Maria Owens

When a new baby is expected there will hopefully be a lot of excitement but there may also be financial worry as there are certain things that need to be bought. Many of you may have friends and/or family that want to contribute so why not give them a list of needed items to save you getting a whole load of stuff that you don't really need. That way the costs can be shared and need not b such a heavy burden for you.

First, the big stuff.

1. Car seat- this is an essential safety item and unless you are absolutely 100% sure of how it has been used and that it has not been involved in any accident and it is fully working, then this item really should be bought from new.

A birth - 4 yrs version is probably the most economical.

2. A cot, again if you can get a second hand one GREAT. Make sure it complies with safety standards so that a baby's head can not become trapped in the rails for example. It is recommended that to reduce the risk of cot death a NEW mattress should be used. DO NOT use a second hand mattress.

Second hand clothing is great as it is often hardly worn. organic clothing is great and has been cultivated without the use of toxic chemicals and pesticides. It is more durable because it has not undergone so many harsh treatments and so will hopefully last longer. Essential baby items are baby vest and onesies for the first few months.

4. Breastfeeding is best so you do not need to buy any bottle feeding products. I had three children and never bought any of that stuff.

5. Washabe nappies/diapers will save you a fortune, not to mention your contribution in minimizing the size of landfill sites.

6. No need to buy loads of smelly baby soaps and creams as research suggests that these should not be used for the first month of life. Water is the only necessity.

Do not worry about material goods for your little bundle. Love, security and happiness are the most important things for your baby.
