Shopping for the expected baby
Baby things are so adorable, and so expensive. Which of the many newborn accessories do you really need? It can be an adventure, trying to make sure that you will have everything that your new baby will need. You will however end up with a lot of items that never actually get used, and things that you don't have enough of.
If you are going to have a baby shower, it is a good idea to make a list of things you need and include the list of suggested gifts in the invitation. Then after the baby shower, you can buy the rest of the necessities.
Accepting hand me downs from friends and family is also good, if the items are in good condition. Especially clothes and blankets, because babies grow fast and blankets are soiled quickly, so it is good to have clothes in increasing sizes, and plenty of extra blankets.
The following list is of "cannot live without items", that every nursery needs.

Sleepers
Onesies
Bottles - nipples
Socks
Pacifiers
Blankets � light and warm
Baby bathtub
First aid kit for newborns (includes nail clipper, comb, thermometer, etc.)
Baby monitor
Diapers
Diaper bag
Natural wipes
I know, there are a million other "must have" baby gadgets and things advertised on TV and the web. But most of those things are not really necessary for a newborn. For example, adorable outfits that would be so cute to see on your baby, but are hard to get on the baby, who will then probably either throw up on, or leak out of the diaper into. Warm, soft sleepers that snap up the front are just easier for you and more comfortable for the baby anyway. For the first few months, all your newborn really needs is to be loved, fed, and changed, the rest of his or her time is going to be spent sleeping and looking around. Warm jammies in winter, a light onesie, or sleeper in summer, bottles, a bath, and a pacifier (if you're going to use one), a safe comfortable place to sleep and another to watch the world from are the only necessities that your new baby really will need.
